1. The key to youthful looking skin is sunscreen. Wear a SPF of 15 or higher on skin exposed all year round. Don’t forget to sunscreen your hands too! There are so many facial creams and hand creams available for all skin types and budgets these days. You can even buy makeup containing SPF! (Check out my blog DA Lifestyle for a full product review.)
2. Got blotchy and uneven skin? Get rid of those dead skin cells. Depending of skin type and product, you should aim to exfoliate at least 2-3 times per week. (There are so many ways to achieve gorgeous, even smooth skin visit my blog for a full list.)
3. Suffering from hyperpigmentation? You’re not alone. There are countless skin lighting products on the market. The severity of your skin condition will ultimately be the deciding factor on what products will be beneficial to you. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist as a lot of treatments require aftercare particularly when it comes to sun exposure. (I will be covering this topic more in depth on my blog.)
4. Hydrate your skin. The sun, saltwater and chlorine all dry out your skin. Investing in a good face and body moisturiser is essential to combat tough leathery skin. You can purchase facial serums and creams which help rejuvenate your skin and increase collagen production. Look out for products containing Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and AHA. (And of course drink plenty of water)
5. LED Facials. LED stands for light-emitting-diodes. First developed by NASA, LED works by sending energy-producing packets of light into the deeper layers of the skin. There are different types: Red light LED stimulates the fibroblasts that produce collagen, which gives young skin its plump look. Blue light LED works by killing the bacteria deep in the skin that is responsible for acne.
6. Visit a professional Dermatologist. While beauty therapists can be incredibly knowledgeable, dermatologists are skin specialists and can safely advise you on what to use for your skin type in order to achieve maximum results.
7. Wear a hat. Not only will a hat protect your face, it will also protect your hair!! Prolonged sun exposure can damage the outside cover of the hair strands. This causes discoloration, dry brittle ends, thinning and frizziness. Did you know the sun's’ rays act very much like bleach on the hair? Bleach reacts with the melanin in the hair and removes colour in an irreversible chemical reaction. So protect your locks!
