To let go is also to reclaim your power. When the past runs our emotions, we become victims of old patterns and re-create similar experiences of suffering. When we live in the past, we are constantly responding to memories rather than creating new experiences. However, when we free ourselves from the old identity and old narrative about who we are, we create opportunities to breathe, rediscover ourselves and experience more joy. Healing is an act of self love: recreating our identity, choosing new beliefs, freeing our body, finding our voice, and opening ourselves to infinite possibility.
Here’s the truth I’ve told many of my clients and oftentimes myself: you are not the same person who was hurt. You’ve learned, evolved, and survived. The fact that you’re seeking healing means the story is already changing. The version of you who endured those experiences deserve your compassion and not your criticism. That person was a part of you, not the whole of you. You can recognize your past experiences without carrying it as your identity or destiny.
