But here is what I have learned: abuse doesn’t care how much money you have, how educated you are, how old you are, or how perfect your life looks. Abusers can be anyone in the community, including the seemingly nicest mothers, fathers, husbands, and wives. Truly abusers can be the people you would never suspect. It happens in every neighborhood and in every social circle. Staying silent only allows it to continue.
That’s why I’m sharing my story. I want others to know they’re not alone. You don’t have to suffer in silence. There is life on the other side. A life where you are safe, respected, loved, and free to be yourself again.
This year, I was invited to walk as a victor of abuse in the WINGS BLOSSOM Fashion Show on April 24th, a beautiful event meant to celebrate survival and strength, as well as raise money to launch new domestic violence programming and critical support services on the North Shore and beyond.
