And the Truth Will Set You Free
The Healing Power of Admitting When You're Wrong
BY DR. ERIKA MONTGOMERY
hy is it so hard to
admit when you
are wrong? People
will lose friendships, destroy marriages, dissolve businesses, and carry secrets to their grave. What a heavy burden to carry. So many of us live in fear of judgment. Judgment that does not allow for human error. Fear of judgment so strong that you would rather lose someone or something, instead of admitting guilt. What is so difficult about that admission? It takes courage, honesty, and trusting that your relationship is based on love. In contrast, saying sorry is different than admitting wrongdoing. Although apologizing is a good act of resolution, acknowledging wrongness means you are accepting full responsibility for your actions.
There are 5 reasons why admitting wrongdoing supports your emotional healing and actually improves your relationships. My hope is that you will be encouraged to choose honesty the next time you do or say something that you know is not right because the truth will set you free.
