planning the trip because the website indicated it was full. The woman on the other end of the line said “amazingly, we have a cancelation of a spot on the beach”. Sold!!!
We arrived just before sunset. John and I were learning our roles and the order of things to settle in. We were getting in the rhythm of RV life. Do not take out the sides before the grill is out and the hook ups are secured, or you will hurt your back.
We poured some cocktails and breathed in the Florida air. We took in the sunset. We made friends with the nicest people and learned their stories. We shared ours. We made meals that ALWAYS taste better cooked while camping. We napped. We relaxed. We connected. Kings in the Corner and Backgammon are key. I might have won more than once. Just sayin...but who’s counting?
We witnessed the Blue Angels fly by. We weathered gale force winds. And had to take down the awning at 1:30 am so we didn’t fly away. Well, he did that. And cursed me for insisting on the fairy lights wrapped around said awning for ambiance as he did it. We visited Pensacola and even got to see a real-life Blue Angel snuggling his daughter while we walked through the history books of aviation.
Something always breaks on an RV. Our steps wouldn’t work. Electrical is always a thing. Make the kitchen work! The toilet wouldn’t stop flushing and the heat sucked. His ability to “MacGyver” anything left me in awe. Mutual respect. He was my hero. Calmly fixing in creative ways what ailed us. We never suffered. We were grateful for what did work. And made do when we had to.
I left that trip feeling more relaxed and content than I have in a long time. Absolutely disconnected because Wi-Fi was hard to come by, which was a blessing. I am so glad we decided to embrace the freedom and flow of an RV week. And what it is to be true partners in life. This is just the beginning of many great journeys that lie before us…for that, I am sure. I return, back to reality from that trip, energized for what lies ahead. Game on. We got this! The best is yet to come…
