DC: JANET MANDELL has launched in the 3 largest cites in the country. How does Chicago differ from Los Angeles and New York when it comes to women seeking to rent one-of-a-kind pieces for a special occasion?
JM: The clients and fashion really vary in all these cities and each city’s fashion is also influenced by the weather, lifestyle, and types of special events around town. We also often rotate inventory between showrooms with the change of season or if there are upcoming special events, like awards season in Los Angeles or Coachella, for example. Our Chicago showroom features all kinds of designer clothing, including couture coats and cold weather clothing in the winter and warm weather pieces in the summer and Los Angeles has warm weather clothing all year long, with cool leather jackets and easy to slip on dresses for going out and an entire gown room for special occasions and Hollywood events and parties. Inventory for the New York showroom will be thoughtfully curated with the New York City woman and lifestyle in mind.
DC: Aside from working one-on-one with individual clients you also have space to host group shopping experiences in your showroom. Explain how that works.
JM: We host all types of events. It can be a holiday event, bridal event, birthday event, girls’ night out, corporate events, etc. We actually have a corporate event we are currently planning with both women and men. We customize all events based on the clients’ needs. We can bring in a men’s styling team, bourbon
and tequila tastings, etc. For big events, we can host a happy hour-like event with light bites. Our fashion is the entertainment and all of our three locations are uniquely designed and have space to host a beautiful event.
DC: Share your goals for Janet Mandell in the next 3 years and how you envision your business
exploding.
JM: My goal is to open a showroom in the Miami/Palm Beach area, Dallas and expand our website to suit each client’s needs.
