A Revival of Cooking

While grocery store isles lay bare and fewer people are willing or able to go to an in-person store, home delivery meal services have seen a significant resurgence. And demand for grocery delivery has never been higher. Just as delivery kits like Blue Apron and Hello Fresh were seeing declines in orders and stock value, cooking at home became a necessity because of shelter-in-place orders. But it’s doing more than just meeting a short-term need, it’s teaching people how to cook for themselves.

For many, the cost savings from cooking at home has been great. As has the enjoyment of making and having meals as a family. The unexpected shift in food planning, preparation, and cooking is one that will likely stay around after the shelter-in-place orders are lifted. Not only because the direct-to-consumer lifestyle has proven so convenient, but also because the act of cooking is cementing itself back into the American routine.
