s we move into a new season, it is time to Spring into action.

In last month's article (Give Your Skin A Drink of Water), I touched on how the winter season may have left your skin feeling a bit dull, dry and irritated. A lot of us are also using anti-aging products to help smooth out fine lines, wrinkles, get rid of sun damage/spots, etc., thus another reason for your dryness.

There is a simple solution to this madness and it is a step that we all seem to forget to add to our skin care regimen...exfoliation.

Manual exfoliation: a gentle scrub once a week at home is key to help slough off the dryness. Scrubbing helps unclog pores, prevents acne, and allows for better product absorption. Your skin will glow and allow you to see the benefits of the anti-aging products you have been using.

Microdermabrasion & Dermaplaning: have this done every 4-6 weeks by your esthetician. It removes dry dead skin, minimizes fine lines, smoothes out texture, reduces pore size, fades scars and brown spots and even stimulates cell turnover. Some microdermabrasion machines also infuse hyaluronic acid, vitamin C or salicylic into the skin.

Chemical exfoliation: chemical peels vary in strength; this type of exfoliation has all the same benefits as listed above BUT at a much deeper level and will help with hyaluronic and collagen reproduction. Please do not think of “Samantha Jones” in “Sex in The City” when you think of a chemical peel. - As I mentioned, they vary in strengths. Some are even called the lunch-time peel!

There are different modalities of exfoliation. I suggest you consult with your esthetician or doctor's office to determine your skin's needs and together come up with a plan that works best for you!
