Sex is routinely named as one of the key components to lasting, healthy romantic relationships. Other things like finances and common vision also frequent the top slots. What’s the major difference?

We talk about finances and goals all the time. It is completely, what’s the word, NORMAL, to sit down and review a monthly budget, set annual goals, talk about the future. If we recognize the importance of discussing these elements, and we also recognize that a healthy sex life is paramount to success in relationships, why is it that it’s not equally normal to sit down and talk about it?

Discuss any current frustrations, ask each other questions about fantasies or desires, do a gut check on your partner’s level of satisfaction and vice versa. This shouldn’t be an issue you’re trying to solve alone. Food for thought.

It seems we still have a long way to go before it becomes the norm to start discussing sex with younger people, not only in a consequence focused model, but in a truly well-rounded way. However there is something we can all do today, wherever we are, to break the stigma and strengthen our current relationships: We can start talking about sex, baby!
