Chaka Khan has three of my pieces. Natalie Cole and Patti Labelle have a piece. Giuliana Rancic has a scarf and Elle McPherson has a few pieces. I’m constantly talking fashion on local networks during the Golden Globes and the Oscars.

DC: Tell me about your new collection.

BP: The “Ride Along” collection is my fall/winter 2015 collection and a lot of great pieces standout individually. This collection allowed me to get my individuality back with bold shapes made out of boiled wool. It’s clean, simple and in your face, which is my aesthetic. I still have the classic beauty pieces like the black knit mixed with wool that are classic statement pieces; they are comfortable yet very sexy at the same time. The men’s wear line is insane, which boasts a black wool jacket with fur from South America around the collar and cuffs. You have to be a very confident guy to step into the arena wearing this jacket.

DC: Moving forward, what can we expect from Borris Powell five years down the road.

BP: I have so many goals, but one of my major goals is to have a luxury brand that is recognized globally. I hope anyone and everyone that wants to wear Borris Powell will have the ability to wear Borris Powell. I’ll introduce a couple more labels aside from my Black (high-end) and White (retail) labels. I also want to introduce ready to wear for men within the next year, so guys can come into my studio and shop off the racks too. I will continue to introduce more cosmetics and handbags that will allow me to have a well -rounded attainable brand. I definitely want my flagship store to be in Chicago, but cities in Europe would be next, such as London, Milan, Moscow and Amsterdam. I will aim for a store in New York after Europe. I would like to build a big brand and then be recognized as a guy from Chicago that changed fashion.
