OH YES IT IS !
A visit to a pantomime is one of those traditional festive treats for all the family . It ’ s a show that has got everything – lots of fun and laughter , corny jokes and dancing girls . Whether you are five or 95 you will come out of the theatre your sides aching from too much laughing .
This style of entertaining was introduced to the British 250 years ago , but the art form was around in ancient Rome . In more modern times the panto has been based on children ’ s fairy stories most of which originated in Europe and the use of the very latest technology has added a distinct 21st century appeal .
Hereford ’ s Courtyard Theatre attracts 20,000 to its annual dose of panto jollity and this year it presents the ever popular ‘ Aladdin ,’ a show with an Eastern tinge and a magic lamp that rubs up lots of adventures for young Aladdin and his sassy mum , Widow Twanky . The story in all the tales remain much the same , but , as they say : its how you tell ‘ em .
The Courtyard team now on their 19th production have developed the knack of creating something special in each of the fairy tales they have presented and Aladdin will be no different . It opens on November 26 and runs through to January 7 . If you want to give the kids – and

There will be another dose of panto pandemonium in the city in the February half term week , February 13 to 17 . Hereford Amateur Pantomime Society , the oldest of the groups stages the much loved ‘ Cinderella ’ fantasy story at the Courtyard while the Magna Theatre Company will be performing ‘ Red and Robin Hood ’ a Whitecross Academy .
