Herefordshire has many quirky traditions but wassailing must be one of the quirkiest. In the New Year
folk go out into the apple orchards and perform the ritual of putting a slice of toast in the tree to
encourage a big crop in the autumn while guns are fired into the branches to ward of evil spirits.
Then there is dancing by the Morris Men followed by the drinking of lots of cider. Recommend you
try one out this coming New Year.
