Phil Collins was named ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ in the 2013 Pride In Herefordshire
Awards, a well deserved recognition of his outstanding contribution to the local economy.

his latest enterprises
include a fleet of five
vessels ferrying
technicians to offshore wind turbines
and another generating
electricity from
renewable fuels.
He was still a
schoolboy when he
built his first shed – for
his father’s farm

is a top rally driver
himself) and farm
trailers. But buying
the old tile works site
at Withington in 1995
was the real start of
his business empire
which would play a
vital role in the
regeneration of
Hereford. The tile
works buildings were
refurbished and rented
to small, but growing
firms, and on adjacent
land he built
headquarters for
Allpay, one of
Hereford’s greatest
success stories and I
& J L Brown, the
antiques and homes
furnishing company.
His next big move
was to invest £2m
buying the 40 acre
Thorn Lighting site at
Rotherwas in 2000
when the factory was
shutdown and
refurbish it for as
much again. Today it
is a thriving business
hub and home to
dozens of local firms.
Phil’s entrepreneurial
skills have helped
create up to 1500 new
jobs.
As one
commentator said: “It
