SWELLS
CHARITY FUND
FESTIVE NEWS • DECEMBER 2014 • PAGE 25
The popularity of Car Boot sales is another
which
typical British phenomenon
continues to attract large numbers of
‘booters’ and buyers at weekends. And the
most popular in Hereford is undoubtedly the
charity boot sale staged by Hereford Lions
Club each Saturday in Spring and Summer
on the field opposite Bookers on Roman
Road. In the four years it has been running
the sale, described by its supporters as the
‘friendly’ event, has raised over £20,000 for
the Lions community fund over the last 4
years to help local good causes. See you all
again next Easter. Watch out for details in
the Admag.

whizzes around everywhere. He really loves his new trike and we are grateful to the
Lions for buying it for him.”
Lion David Barrett, said: “It was a privilege to help young Ben and seeing his happy
smiling face as he demonstrated for us his new mobility made it all worthwhile. I was
particularly impressed with the wonderful care and support given to the pupils at Blackmarston, which teaches children with various disabilities.”
Hereford Lions Club chipped in £500 to the Hereford
in Bloom fund to buy plants for the beds, planters and
hanging baskets which once again brightened up the city
centre following the decision of Herefordshire Council
to abandon flower planting as a cost cutting exercise.
Hereford City Council funded the watering.
Lion Club member, Ian Foster, is pictured showing
Britain in Bloom judge Nicola Clarke one of the High
Town planters sponsored by Lions.
Said Ian: “It is important the city looks bright,
cheerful and welcoming if it is to attract the extra
visitors needed to boost the local economy. Lions Club
was pleased to do its bit towards making this happen.”
