This 2014 edition of the Lions Festive News marks the 21st anniversary of the popular
community newspaper published annually by Hereford Lions C lub to help the city prepare for
the Christmas festivities.
The Lions are very much part of the Spirit of Christmas. Their Santa Sleigh has been touring
the city streets each evening in the weeks before Christmas Day for some 40 years, an
opportunity for the children to tell Santa what’s on their present wish list. For the last quarter
of a century the Lions Santa’s Grotto at Wyevale Garden Centre has maintained this wonderful
tradition and will be there this year
as usual.
George Thomas, who has edited
all 21 editions, said: “It’s a
privilege to bring Festive News
into 30,000 homes in the city and
surrounding villages at this very
special time of the year and to
keep families informed of what is
happening here in the weeks
before Christmas Day.”
He added, “This unique
newspaper is only made possible
by the generous support of all our
advertisers and we urge all
readers out doing their Christmas
shopping to in turn support the
hundreds of local independent
traders, many of whom have
advertised with us since the
newspaper started.”
As well as being a ‘light and
informative read’ Festive News
also makes a significant
contribution to the Lions Club’s
charity fund which as you will
see from the news reports in the
pages gives many thousands of
pounds to local good causes.
