Not only did the group of 60 boys excel on the football pitch but tour organisers Stuart Sheehan and Kevin Morris declared them to be the best ambassadors for the city ever to go to the tournament. The under 15’s and under 17’s finished second in their sections losing out on penalties on the last day. However, the under 13’s and under 19’s each won their sections gaining the tournament champion’s title for Hereford. Between them the four teams scored the most goals. A player from each of the four teams was chosen as Hereford footballer of the tournament, both on and off the pitch: Under 13’s: Josh Philips; under 15’s: Will Thomas; under 17’s: Austin Thomas; under 19’s: Bastion Spriel. As usual, teams from the Dutch club Brederodes arrived in Hereford in October for a return visit, hosted mostly by families whose sons were in the teams playing at the tournament in Holland earlier in the year. A day out in Cardiff was followed by matches against Lads Club and the next day the boys enjoyed go-kart racing at Weobley and more Lads Club games in the evening before watching the Hereford FC v Kings Langley match at Edgar Street. Not only would Brian Williams have been the only founder member still singing, but he had been choir secretary for virtually all its 60 years. He died, aged 86 in September. One of a dozen police officers selected to sing in a choir to celebrate the centenary of Herefordshire Constabulary in the cathedral in 1957, he was the driving force of what would become a hugely successful choir open to men from all walks of life, singing regularly in the Royal Albert Hall on on television.. His sheer enthusiasm and massive contribution to male voice choral singing earned him an MBE, presented to him by Her Majesty the Queen. Never one to miss a chance to promote the choir, he returned the favour by giving her a copy of the choir’s latest CD album!! Born in Whitecross, he was promoted to Inspector in the traffic d
