Four members of Hereford Lions Club have been honoured for long and distinguished service to Lions International , the global humanitarian and community aid organisation which this year celebrates its centenary Between them the quartet of Lions has 112 years service and all have served as president .
At the club ’ s 57th Charter dinner three members , George Thomas , Colin Smith and Martin Exell were inducted to the Melvin Jones Fellowship , named after the founder of Lions International .
In other roles George has been publicity officer for 34 years and Editor of Lions Festive News since its launch 24 years ago ; Colin is the long serving secretary and ran the club ’ s holiday home
Three teenagers planning to do community work in Malaysia during their summer holidays in 2018 are organising a fund raising concert in Holmer Church on Saturday , December 2 , 7-30pm . Top of the bill will be Hereford Concert Band .
The trio ( l to r ) Alice Shaw , 16 , Emma Powell , 15 and Will Eckley , 14 , pupils at St Mary ’ s High School , Lugwardine and members of Holmer Church will be taking part in a World Challenge exercise involving projects for children and conservation . World Challenge was set up in 1987 to send young volunteers to countries in need of extra support .
They are pictured at a coffee morning which raised £ 740 . Tickets for the pre-Christmas concert are £ 5 and include a glass of wine in the interval .

Keith Martin , with 43 years service and already a member of the Melvin Jones Fellowship was given the rare honour of being admitted to the highly ranked Founders Fellowship , recognising his outstanding contribution .. He is renowned as an events organiser , especially the Lions famous New Year ’ s Eve parties .
