New volunteer-run Community Radio Station planned for city
It has been another busy year for Hereford City ( Parish ) Council commencing in May with the Hereford City Community Group Achievement Awards followed shortly by the installation of the new Mayor Cllr Sharon Michael .
The City Council has continued to support many groups and organisations from within the City with grants and joint funding to deliver projects which improve the look and feel of the City , benefit the residents of the City , bring about community cohesion and enable the communities within the City to do more for themselves . The City Council is working with the relevant partners to access and apply for funding for the installation of a Close Circuit Cycle Track which will be situated on part of the Racecourse site . This will enhance the other facilities already here and improve accessibility to cycling for all ages and disabilities . Some other key projects the City Council and partners are developing / exploring are :
• The Hereford Area Plan
• Delivering training and support for volunteers and groups within the City .
• Restoring and illuminating the City walls as a key feature of the City .
• Creating a civic museum displaying all the City ’ s Silver and Charters .
• Developing all-inclusive tours of the Town Hall , City ’ s Silver and City ’ s Charters for tourism and education .
• Plinths for sculptures at Hereford Skatepark following a similar idea to the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square
• An emergency launch site to reinstate the old slipway site at Quay Street . Reach Radio could launch next year
The City Council are key partners in the development of the REACH OUT brand and developing Reach Radio a community radio station run by volunteers and bringing all the communities within the City of Hereford together in one place . The group is in its early stages with the aim of having the radio station , website and more up and running by February 2018 with a big launch event aimed for the summer of 2018 . Hereford City Youth Council has had an extremely busy year engaging with key service providers , responding to consultations on behalf of the youth of the City and delivered a very successful key networking event in October which brought 10 youth participation groups together to provide a stronger youth voice within the City . The young people involved have considered several issues important to young people from within the City and disseminated out to all the schools information leaflets on activities for young people to do during the school holidays .
