The long running Lions Pub Quiz night at the Bay Horse inn continues to be as popular as ever , providing a great night out for those with the urge to test their mental agility – and helping raise funds for local good causes . Close on £ 3,000 this year .
The quizzes are held on the third Thursday of
each month at 7-30pm and include supper ( No quiz in December )
The winning team in October was the oddball named ‘ I wear women ’ s clothes ’ pictured ( above ) who have four wins to their name and all work in social services department at Herefordshire Council .
CITY READY FOR FESTIVITIES
Hereford has pressed the start button for a magical festive season . The Christmas Lights are blazing out a welcome to shoppers and Santa is in his Grotto . Office parties are in full swing – and the Cathedral has lots of events to remind us why we are celebrating Christmas .
Late night shopping is on November 22 and December 20 when parking will be free after 4pm in council car parks , Old Market and even on-street charges just introduced will be relaxed for the two nights . Retailers are expecting bumper Christmas sales .
Old Market got into the seasonal swing on November 18 with a lights switch on at 5-30pm followed by High Town on the 19th . Maylord beat them both flicking the switch on November 4 .
The traditional Handels Messiah by candlelight at the Cathedral on December 9 sets the scene for those wanting to mark the birth of Jesus . So many attend the carol service its on two nights , December 22 and 23 . Its free but tickets must be reserved .
