The Fernie Heritage Library is a place to discover and nurture a love of literature and language. Fun and friendly, warm and welcoming; a sanctuary for all ages filled with every variety of media. Drop in to pick up a book or movie to take home, stay a while and enjoy storytime or a special social event. Curl up in a huge leather armchair by the sunny upstairs windows to enjoy the view of the Lizard Range and folklore of old Fernie. More than you imagine, the Fernie Heritage Library brings words to life. In celebration of Family Literacy Day on January 23rd at 5:30pm, visit the library to enjoy pizza and writing from your roots. Writings stations will be provided to inspire writers of all ages from early years to seniors. Limited spaces, email [email protected] to register. ENGAGING PROGRAMMING FOR ALL A range of engaging programming suitable for all ages from toddlers to seniors is offered throughout the year featuring stories, crafting, music and community events. All programs are free, and everyone is welcome to attend. BUILDING FERNIE’S LITERARY HERITAGE Housed in the beautiful historic former Customs & Post Office building in the heart of Fernie, the Fernie Heritage Library has provided library services and programs for over one hundred years. The Library has been recognized for its excellence in community programming and engagement and offers three floors of books, magazines and reference materials, a research and study room, computer use, and fax, copy, and scan services. In all seasons, it is a cozy refuge; warm in winter, cool in summer. 26 26 The Fernie Heritage Library is a festive centre with a warm welcome throughout the month of December. Adults have an opportunity to make their own Christmas cards on Thursday 5th from 6:30-8pm. Join the Crafternoon & Carol Jam on Saturday the 14th from 1-3pm. Bring your acoustic instrument (voices count as well!) and join the jam or just listen and enjoy! Not your forte? Craft alongside the carollers. Hot Chocolate and treats included. Tots and their caregivers will love the Plaid Storytime Party on Wednesday the 18th at 11:15am – dress in your most festive plaid, bring a simple potluck item to share and enjoy soup, stories, songs and socializing. The annual Christmas Celebration is a festive and friendly event for the whole family on Saturday the 21st – enjoy cider, stories and beautiful carols led by community musicians. The month rounds out with a Family Storytime Countdown on Tuesday the 31st from 11:15am to let little ones in on the action! The event will feature games, stories, snacks, and dancing aimed at the youngest of party goers and their families. Regular programming continues for kids throughout the winter with crafternoons, Lego building, storytime On Thursday, March 26th at 7pm, the Library presents: Oh, The Places You Will Go, A Community Slide Show. See and hear travel stories from local adventurers or participate by emailing five photos to [email protected] and then join the event to tell your travel tale. Watch for family Uke 101 sessions, bring your own Ukulele or borrow one from the library and learn this fun, entertaining musical instrument with Fernie’s own Anie Hepher of Red Girl, the Kootenay Stringbenders and Good Valley.
