The BBQ Chef Challenge on May 26
is a new addition to the Fernie culinary
calendar and is the brainchild of local
food enthusiast Kevin McIsaac. McIsaac
has a passion for Fernie flavours, noting
that Fernie’s “pub food is good and our
patio fu is strong.” His only lament —
currently — is not having anywhere
to get biscuits and gravy on a Sunday
morning, but as he says, “that's just this
month, next month, who knows?”

The challenge is a return to a popular
sometime feature of the former
‘Taste of Fernie’ event that McIsaac
co-ordinated for the last 7 years of
its existence. Originally started 20
years ago as a way to familiarize locals
and visitors with the then-nascent
foodie culture in Fernie during the
quieter summer months, it eventually
dropped off the calendar when Fernie’s
restaurants became too busy to
participate. Now with more restaurants
and more variety than ever before,
visitors and locals have a plethora of
palate-pleasing possibilities.
