LIGHTS IN THE NIGHT
CP HOLIDAY TRAIN COMES TO Elk Valley
Rolling into the Elk Valley every second
year with grand cheer, the CP Holiday
Train will arrive once again on Monday,
December 11th. A spectacle of lights,
music and celebration in true Canadian
style, the 2017 Holiday Train concludes
CP's Canada 150 celebrations and will
feature the Spirit of Tomorrow car,
which was part of the Canada 150 Train
this past summer.
The CP Holiday Train is over 1,000ft
in length and each of the 14 cars are
decked out in thousands of LED lights
in festive designs. Arriving just after
dark in Fernie, it is a spectacular sight
flanked by blankets of pillowy snow
reflecting the rainbow of colours.
The train begins its journey in Quebec
in late November and travels across the
country, stopping at towns and cities
along the way. The dual purpose of
the Holiday Train is to raise donations
for local food banks and to bring
communities together to enjoy the
festive entertainment.
LIVE FREE CONCERT
Alan Doyle—of Great Big Sea fame—
and The Beautiful Band will provide a
live boot-stomping performance from
the train as it stops in Sparwood at
3:30pm, Fernie at 5:15pm and Jaffray
at 7:15pm before continuing through
BC to the coast.
HELPING LOCAL FOOD BANKS
Since its inception in 1999, the CP
Holiday Train has raised over $13 million
dollars and 4 million pounds of food for
North American Food Banks. CP Rail
encourages you to bring non-perishable
food to donate to the cause. The Fernie
Food Bank also appreciates gift card
donations to assist in helping local
families.
