A 1950’s WEDDING:
On November 8th, 1952, at the Knox
United Church in Fernie, The Reverend
J. M. Alexander married Jaqueline
Wyman to Cecil Alexander. Among the
collection are copies of the wedding
album, Cecil’s wedding suit, and
Jaqueline’s wedding dress that was worn
by her daughter in 1985 for her own
wedding. Through this mini collection
of documented items, we see a picture
of how one of the most important days
in a couple’s life was celebrated over 60
years ago.
COMMERCE AND COMMUNITY:
The Trites-Wood Department Store
was central to community life in Fernie.
The source of all necessities, the Fernie
store was one of 4 branches of one of
the biggest retail empires in British
Columbia. The ornate cash register
would have been one of the most
recognized items in Fernie in its day.
The final exhibit of the Fernie Canada
150 Cultural Series, presented in
partnership by the Fernie Museum
and the Fernie Arts Station. Visit the

On February 4th, 2018, a Canadian
Roadshow-style event will offer
local citizens a chance to have their
own artifacts appraised by qualified
historians in a fascinating glimpse into
the lives of Fernie residents from time
gone by.
