FERNIE TREASURES AND CURIOSITIES Fernie Museum Sept 14, 2017–March 31, 2018 family fun. The Kootenay Hootenanay on Friday 15th is a street fair featuring string-bending, foot stomping tunes from Craig Moritz and a food truck alley. Saturday 16th begins with a pancake breakfast and continues with cultural demonstrations including Ktunaxa Nation Youth Dancers, open doors at 10 heritage buildings, an antique car show, culture crawl, art on the lawn, children’s tent, and live music throughout the day. From a collection of almost 10,000 Cultural History artifacts, local residents will select 150 objects that reflect stories of the history, society, and personal lives of the individuals who chose to live here. Through stories of the objects’ provenance, useful life and relevance, the exhibition will serve as a cultural looking glass into how society functions and how our essential—and non-essential—needs change over time. TREASURES FROM FERNIE ATTICS Fernie Community Centre October 7th, then online from November In the style of the Canadian Antiques Road Show, local residents are invited to bring their treasures to be ev aluated. Stories of the objects and their owners will be recorded for a web series to be presented on the Fernie Museum website and Connections App. Sunday 17th features an interdenominational church service at Fernie’s heritage Christ Church, a truly scrumptious afternoon tea, and a harvest Italian spaghetti dinner with special guest Bohdan S Kordan who will share stories about the internment of ‘enemy aliens’ during the Great War from his book No Free Man.
