Coming this spring
Spring starts to arrive in April as
temperatures warm up and the longer
daylight hours give way to the sights
and sounds of a fresh new season.
The biggest spring party is Fernival, the
official closing weekend celebrations at
Fernie Alpine Resort. Held over Easter
Weekend on April 14-16th, Fernival will
feature a free live outdoor concert, the
Coca Cola Slush Cup, Powder Pedal
Paddle Race and more!
Canada turns 150 in 2017 and
the Fernie Museum and The Arts
Station opens a year of events,
starting in March with I Am Fernie
— a photographic exhibition by Kyle
Hamilton exploring the characters and
citizens that make up this community.
The exhibition will be on view until
May 31st; related programming will
include a series of hosted discussions to
examine perceptions of place, identity,
and community. The exploration of
Canadiana continues with Connections:
The Canadian Youth Project, April 27
- May 23rd, a collaborative art project
exploring identity in young Canadians
– how our young adults identify with
Canada and what makes them proud to
be Canadian.

April 22nd each year is Earth Day,
the largest environmental event in the

Don’t miss the Spring Craft Fair,
packed with a cornucopia of handmade
local art, crafts, and treats at Fernie
Community Centre on April 29th.
May is the season of bloom as patios
start to emerge, valley trails open up
for walks and local bike rides, and the
golf course opens for those wanting
to hit the fairways or simply enjoy the
spectacular views of the Clubhouse
patio. May also brings events such
as the Spring Bike Blitz, the huge
Elk Valley Garage Sale, the Fernie
Community Choir Spring Concert and
much more.
