LITERATURE & COMMUNITY
FERNIE HERITAGE LIBRARY
The Fernie Heritage Library is a place to
discover and nurture a love of literature
and language. Fun and friendly, warm
and welcoming; a sanctuary for all ages
filled with every variety of media. Drop
in to pick up a book or movie to take
home, stay a while and enjoy storytime,
a ukulele class, or a special social event.
Curl up in a huge leather armchair by
the sunny upstairs windows to enjoy the
view of the Lizard Range and folklore of
old Fernie. More than you imagine, the
Fernie Heritage Library brings words
to life.
BUILDING FERNIE’S LITERARY
HERITAGE
Housed in the beautiful historic former
Customs & Post Office building in the
heart of Fernie, the Fernie Heritage
Library has provided library services and
programs for over one hundred years.
The Library has been recognized for its
excellence in community programming
and engagement and offers three floors
of literature, media and reference
materials plus office services and
computer terminals. The popular
Library garden is a sunny space to relax
with a book or a family picnic during
warmer months.
ENGAGING PROGRAMMING
FOR ALL
A range of engaging programming
suitable for all ages from toddlers to
seniors is offered throughout the year
both inside the library and out in the
community. Programs include reading
groups, book launches, and children’s
activities inspired by literature. All
programs are free, and everyone is
welcome to attend.
Regular programming includes stories
and activities for under 5’s on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Friday mornings,
monthly Tea & Talk Book club and
Cyber Seniors every Wednesday.
Additional afternoon programming for
kids, teens and tweens is scheduled
throughout the season. Join Lorraine
Kneier on October 3rd for a fascinating
examination of Beethoven’s 5th
Symphony, a chance to explore the
work prior to the Symphony of the
Kootenay’s concert in Cranbrook on
October 6th. The Library brings the
community together at special family-
friendly events including the Halloween
Howler on October 31st and the
Christmas Celebration on December
21st.
