CULINARY FEATURE

FOR THE LOVE OF SUMMER

Beat the heat this summer with a cool treat – whether in town or on mountain, there are delicious, sweet snacks ready to keep you smiling all day!
Located on Highway # 3, Happy Cow Ice Cream is a pastel-coloured pitstop with a selection of delicious fresh ice cream and sorbet featuring locally sourced produce including honey, Muisca Coffee and seasonal berries, and mint from their own garden. The range includes tried and true favourites like chocolate and strawberry, plus whimsical house specials like Carrot Cake and Banana Cream Pie. Be sure to try the famous ice cream sandwich featuring home-made chocolate chip cookies or pick up an ice cream cake for a special celebration.
Venturing downtown, don’ t miss the artisan experience of a visit to Beanpod Chocolate, Coffee & Gelato – celebrating 15 years in 2025! Their selection of authentic gelato made using traditional Italian processes and flavours like stracciatella, lemon, and salted caramel will tempt your tastebuds. Relax on a comfy couch with an affogato – freshly made espresso poured over silky smooth gelato. Free from preservatives and artificial ingredients, and with half the sugar and five times less fat than
regular ice cream, Beanpod gelato is a treat you can enjoy without the guilt.
Venturing onto the mountains surrounding Fernie, our two resort bases – Fernie Alpine Resort and Island Lake Lodge – have you covered. At Fernie Alpine resort, pick up frozen treats ready to go from the Mountain Pantry or Slopeside Café before or after your hike or ride, or from the Bear’ s Den at the top of the Elk Chair – the perfect mid-mountain chill zone. The Candy Cabin located in the Plaza offers scoop and serve hard ice cream to satisfy every appetite.
At Island Lake Lodge, the Bear Bistro will be offering cold pressed juice freezies to go, with all proceeds going to support the Island Lake Trails.
