Fernie ’ s coolest winter activity – Fatbiking – takes you along groomed multi-used trails through the trees and up to viewpoints , if you ’ re up for the challenge ! Bring your own fatbike or rent or buy one at local bike shops and just go . If you can mountain bike you can fatbike , though it doesn ’ t take much to get a sweat on , even in -10c temperatures . A diversity of trails cater to this great activity . For beginners , practice along the town river trail then progress to the Inclusive Trail up to Montane Hut . For the more experienced try the new Montane Blue , Lower Ridgemont or Fernie Alpine Resort . More advanced options include Phat Bastard , Mushroom and Red Sonya , Upper Ridgemont or CONTRA .
Learn-to-fatbike and guided tours are offered by Mountain High Adventures located at the Adventure Centre , open to the public , at Fernie RV Resort , and at Fernie Alpine Resort . Pick up the new Winter Trail Map before you go or use the Trailforks App .
