H squared gallery
Tara Higgins has had an interesting life that may not be immediately apparent in her gentle landscapes and skyscapes that evoke memories of walking through hayfields and afternoons watching clouds scudding through the sky . Born in Canada , she spent parts of her childhood in England and earned a BA in Theatre Production from Clark University in Massachusetts in the USA . Returning to Canada in 1999 , she arrived in Fernie following a period in Whistler .
H Squared Gallery was opened in 2019 in a garage space studio , moving to a smaller downtown location shortly after , and finally to the current location on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 5th Street . The gallery hosts a number of Western Canadian artists , including Bragg Creek based Juliana Rempel , who received a BA in Visual Arts from Emily Carr University following studies in Wales , Hungary , France and at Medalta Pottery in Alberta . Her ceramics include bold graphic wall art . Other features include jewellery from Vanassa Chan of Pursuits and Lisa and Jean from CinelliMaillet , lighting design from Claudine and Jean at Umbra and Lux , textile art from Fernie ’ s Sam Sedlowsky and a range of paintings , pottery , prints and glassware from artists from across Canada .
Through mentoring programs , collaboration and group exhibits , Higgins hopes to foster growth in career artists . The space is designed to evolve and support each artist as they explore their chosen mediums . To develop her own practice , she enjoys working with other artists and has produced collaborative pieces with abstract artist Jackie Impey and portraitist Angela Morgan . Working with Becca Davies , she created the ‘ Grow with the Flow ’ mural near the Fernie Arts Station , where she is also a Board member . The gallery often holds openings for new artists and group shows , usually from 3-7pm to encourage plenty of time to enjoy the art and meet fellow artists and enthusiasts .
