CREATIVE COMMUNITY FEATURE
Elkford ’ s Michelle Krenbrink
A self-taught artist , Michelle Krenbrink can ’ t recall a time when she wasn ’ t making or creating , but plans for a formal education were derailed as her two kids came along and family life took over .
Originally from Lethbridge , Krenbrink moved to Elkford around 13 years ago around the same time that she revisited her passion for sketching . In her home studio she explores many different styles and mediums from dark and moody skull portraits to dreamy abstract seascape paintings to whimsical , colourful mosaics , mixing and matching themes as inspiration finds her . She has taken many classes to improve and develop her skills , bringing a delightful warmth and realism to her pet portraits , available on a commission basis .
As president of the Elkford Arts Coop , Krenbrink works with the local community to create a collaborative and supportive space for the arts . Her own contributions include teaching kintsugi - the Japanese art of mending with gold - pottery , and painting . As the Events & Programming Co-ordinator for the District of Elkford she is keen to promote the arts and provide facilities and artistic opportunities for all to enjoy .
Back at home in another part of her house , she teaches and practices Reiki and spirituality , helping people to discover and develop their own gifts . She co-hosts the Earth Mother Drum Circle which holds a drum circle every full moon at 7pm and is offering a Drum Circle Camping Retreat in Elkford on July 28-30 .
Michelle Krenbrink lives in Elkford with her husband and teacup chihuahua , Bones . She is inspired by animals , which often appear in her work , and enjoys crochet in her spare time . She is currently working on a collaborative art show to be held in Elkford later in the year .
