Originally from Winnipeg , Manitoba , Matt and Trisha Martin moved their family of five to Fernie in 2016 and have since called the Elk Valley home . With a pursuit for originality and a passion for goldsmithing , Matt draws inspiration from the natural beauty and creative design that surrounds us .
For over 30 years , Matt has specialized in custom-made jewelry that is both unique and meaningful , often repurposing inherited pieces . Matt pursued jewellery-making after being inspired by modernist American metal sculptor , Albert Paley . He began studying jewellery making at Camosun College in Victoria , BC , returning to Winnipeg to enrol in the Fine Arts program at the University of Manitoba and later switching to an intensive Jewellery Arts program offered at another local collegiate where the emphasis was on technical processes . Upon completion of his education , he was offered a work placement position with a local jeweller which was the catalyst to launching his career . Technically challenging and inherently creative , goldsmithing is a craft Martin has been drawn to over his career . He is inspired by contrast and

The new gallery and studio at 571 2nd Ave will be a welcome addition to Fernie ’ s Historic Downtown . The bright open retail gallery showcases their jewelry alongside a curated collection of beautiful Nordic inspired ‘ Objects ’ for your home that share in thoughtful design and reflect core values for sustainability . Offering a full range of repairs and servicing , the jewelry studio is also equipped with benches for upcoming workshops .
