Centred on the lawns at City Hall in the heart of Fernie , the annual Fernie Chautauqua is a celebration of heritage and culture featuring history , music , art and feasting .
This year ’ s event will focus on the new gallery exhibit at the Fernie Museum , Women of Michel , an introspective art exhibition by four artists who were born and grew up in the former community of Michel . An opening reception will kick off the weekend on Friday .
Saturday features a day of art and heritage with Culture on the Lawn , live entertainment , art demos , children ’ s activities at Fernie Heritage Library and a Night at the Speakeasy to round out the evening . On Sunday , the Mountain Market and food vendors will make a one-time appearance in downtown Fernie , moving to the City Hall Grounds from their regular spot in Rotary Park for this weekend only .

After a foot-stomping summer season of concerts and creativity , the Fernie Arts Station resets for the fall season . The banner launch event will be held in early September when you can see the banners up close and personal , and pre-purchase one before they are hung around town . Gallery shows continue in the fall with a free opening reception held at 7pm on the last Thursday of every month . The Arts Station is a cultural hub for Fernie and there ’ s always something going on . See calendars for details of lively theatre concerts , pottery and painting workshops , the return of Indie Films Fernie and special events for kids .
