Earth ’ s Own Naturals
On October 17 , 2018 , the Government of Canada legalized access to cannabis . Under the new law , adults 19 years and older can purchase and possess up to 30g of legally produced dried or non-dried equivalent cannabis from a provincially licensed retailer . As of October 17 , 2019 , edible products and concentrates are also available . The new regulations made it possible for retail establishments to provide safe , convenient access to cannabis and cannabis products in welcoming and friendly environment . The Elk Valley now has 4 retailers ; Earth ’ s Own Naturals , Stick & Stone , and Summit Cannabis Co in Fernie ; and Elk Valley Cannabis in Elkford and Sparwood .
Owner of Earth ’ s Own Naturals , Laurie Weitzel was born in BC and grew up in Winnipeg , later moving to Kimberley . When Laurie ’ s husband was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in early 2014 , the couple were not consumers of cannabis . Inspired to explore every avenue , they found cannabis helpful in managing the symptoms of the disease . Sadly , Laurie ’ s husband lost his fight with cancer in 2015 shortly after receiving a unanimous vote of support to open a retail store in Kimberley . Laurie held on to their shared goal of promoting quality
of life through cannabis and opened the first store in Kimberley in 2017 . The Fernie location opened in late 2019 in the renovated Dutch barn on 5th St .
