A frontier atmosphere pervaded in Fernie ’ s early days . High tempers often got the better of the hardworking people who struggled against the odds . In the nearby town of Coal Creek , a miner named Benson went to his superintendent to complain about treatment by his fireboss . The superintendent said that he would speak to the fireboss , named Joyce , but didn ’ t think there was much he could do . In a sullen rage Benson collected his revolver and set out for the mine offices …
What happened to Joyce and Benson ? And what happened on the night of November 21 , 1939 as a businessman made his regular walk home ? And how does this connect to the Fernie Courthouse and the artist who had his studio in the former businessman ’ s

Please note that these tours are not for the faint hearted and should be taken with a pinch of salt , and a sense of humour ! Evenings are cold , and the terrain can be uneven and wet , so warm waterproof clothing and sturdy walking shoes are recommended .
