Kylie arrived in Fernie from Aotearoa ( New Zealand ) 16 years ago and is now a central figure in the community as a regular performer . Inspired by the work of Bobby McFerrin , she prefers an improvisational style of performing , taking inspiration from what she sees around her and being inspired by her environment . She has sung songs about farmers tans , fridges , trail builders and safe driving , loves to include a little comedy and cherishes a recent celebration of life where she was asked to perform . Her repertoire of instruments includes guitar , trumpet , flute , hand drums , recorder , with a ‘ wee bit ’ of clarinet and piano . She regularly collaborates with Sonia Roy , a local musician and music teacher , as the Yayefals , and with other local musicians .
At her mountain retreat , Wakita , just outside of Fernie , she hosts musical garden tours and has created a food course called Y ’ om . This fall , she will be hosting the weekly Open Mic at Freshies on Saturdays and is available for original performances and celebrations .

Naena Robinson has lived in Fernie for over 20 years and is now raising her family here with her husband . She fondly remembers singing Dixie Chicks songs with her dad while he played guitar , later picking up the instrument for herself and taking up songwriting . Naena is a regular at local venues , performing covers of popular songs in many different genres .
On Sept 2nd , take a ride on the Timber Chairlift for Music On The Mountain – Naena will be performing live music on the patio at Lost Boys Cafe with an amazing backdrop .
