In the week of February 05 to 09 the nucleus of studies in fermentations (NEFER) promoted at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), the first version of the Bioinformatics course. Participated in the course 25 post-graduate and graduate students interested and/or involved in research with microbiology, genomics and metagenomics. The course was ministered by Filipe Pereira Matteoli, PhD of the State University of Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (UENF), where he studied bioinformatics and genomics of microorganisms, with emphasis on comparative genomics and assembly of genomes.

The content of the course covered the fundamentals of bioinformatics, analysis and comparison of sequences, to more complex issues, such as assembly of genomes and metagenomics analyzes. In addition to the theoretical part, the course also included with practical classes, where participants were able to have access to the tools commonly used in bioinformatics.
