Regent Skylight Systems
Waverley Homestead,
Gundy, New South Wales.
The various additions over the years to this historic
homestead resulted in a lack of natural light and a fairly
complicated roof structure. Regent was approached
to assist in designing skylights that could restore the
balance of natural light to the internal rooms.
Skylight sizes were dictated by support structure,
room orientation and a desire to limit the number of
roof penetrations while making them as unobtrusive
as possible. Forward planning by the builder to
ensure light paths through the skylights was critical
to the success of the project. The skylights were
manufactured from Galvabond to ensure comparability
with the existing roof cover and to provide sufficient
strength to support the weight of the glass.
The builder opted for hob skylights to ensure
waterproofing, reduce detritus build up and corrosion,
and increase skylight service life. Glass Colonials were
selected to reduce visual environmental impact.
Light shafts were positioned for a minimum of
disruption to structural roof framing members while
maximising natural light.
JUDGES’ COMMENTS
This is technically great, aesthetically pleasing and
environmentally sound. These skylights look wonderful,
not just from the inside, but also externally.
