The objective at Penrhos College was to completely eliminate the need for the ‘ hungry ’ energy consuming artificial lighting systems during daylight hours , originally installed when the sports centre was built .
Solatube were able to provide a science based solution using their purpose made Daylight Design Calculator . The Solatube SolaMaster Series - 330DS Open Ceiling configured system was installed across the two multipurpose sports areas leading to an 80-90 % reduction in the use of artificial lighting .
Purpose made ball protection grills were manufactured and installed to prevent accidental damage to tubes or diffusers .
