Winner AWA best use of windows & doors Commercial renovation Magnetite (Australia) Pty Ltd Martin Place, Sydney, NSW Magnetite retrofit acrylic double glazing is a special markresistant glazing, manufactured by Mitsubishi Rayon. Imported specifically for this project to ensure durability and consistency in the product, this project represents the first time the glazing has been used in Australia. The product was chosen for three reasons: acoustics, aesthetics and energy efficiency. A year long process of testing, comparing and contrasting options resulted in Magnetite being chosen to highlight the heritage windows. Of all the products that met the project requirement Magnetite had the lowest visual impact on the existing windows due to the slim line nature of Magnetite’s framing system. The existing windows were repaired and remained in situ through the project. This reduced building waste and land fill that would have resulted with replacement windows. The Magnetite uPVC framing, magnet, and acrylic glazing components can be recycled at end of use. JUDGES’ COMMENTS Utilising a combination of Magnetite secondary glazing and film, this window renovation addresses both energy savings and acoustics.
