Winner AISF Best Use Of Anodising Australian Aluminium Finishing Pty Ltd Charles Darwin Centre, Darwin, NT Located in the heart of Darwin’s CBD, the Charles Darwin Centre takes centre stage in the transformation of Darwin City. The lens-shaped tower, fronting Bennet Street, is comprised of twenty storeys over approximately 1200 square metres. It affords occupants sweeping views of the waterfront and contributes to the unique silhouette of Darwin’s skyline. The anodised component is affixed to the five level carpark that flanks the tower to the north and the west. As fixed sealed window systems are not suitable for carpark use, Locker Group’s Dragonscale product provided an ideal solution. Forming a three dimensional textured element, it allows for the transfer of light and ventilation. The uniquely scaled panels affixed in an alternating wave pattern create a functional design element. The natural metallic lustre of AAF Evershield High Grade Anodising, complements the finish of the tower. JUDGES’ COMMENTS It is of extreme importance to ensure that a building element like this with exaggerated texture is comprehensively coated for durability and protection. Therefore, a big tick goes to the 25 year warranty on this project. The anodising is a highlight of the building and elevates the carpark to visually stunning. www.aafonline.com.au 10 Fenestration Australia Design Awards 2015 Bill Wyllie (left) accepting the award for AAF.
