How FEMS is responding to the
COVID-19 outbreak
These are uncertain and rapidly changing times.
We have formed an Emergency Response Task
Group to monitor the situation regarding the
spread of COVID-19 and its consequences. This
statement outlines our response in several
key areas and provides links to important
information
on
the
novel
coronavirus.
Although the consequences of
this pandemic are severe and will
be with us for a while to come,
I am heartened by the swift and
united response from the scientific
community.
At this time, collaboration and
connection are more important
than ever, and as a Member of
FEMS, I hope that it is helpful to
be part of this larger federation of
societies across Europe.

FEMS President
FEMS and OUP have subscribed to the Wellcome
Statements on the novel COVID-19 virus and
will make all research in our journals related
to the COVID-19 outbreak fully Open Access.
All FEMS events are currently scheduled to go ahead
as planned, following an assessment of circumstances
and risks involved. The safety and welfare of our
attendees and staff will always be our top priority.
Consequently, we continue
and information from the
and governmental bodies
the situation and update
to review the advice
relevant professional
who are monitoring
participants regularly.
Recognizing Reviewers
The FEMS journals have partnered with Publons, which is a platform where researchers
can track their publications, citation metrics, peer reviews and journal editing work in
one place.
Reviewers in the FEMS journals can now
simply choose to automatically add their
reviewing activity to their profile (see
instructions here). It’s quick and easy to
maintain a profile, can be used as evidence
of your research outputs, and provides
valuable insights into your publication and
review history. It’s important to note that your verified review history is shown across
all academic journals and selected funders without revealing any sensitive information
about the manuscript or grant application.

“Our end user is the microbiology
community - whether that’s
microbiology societies or individuals.
I am trying to make sure that what
we report on is clear, and there’s a
transparent structure to it.”
