Our fashion is a statement of power and assurance . I love that I now have a say in how how I dress and what I wear, a opportunity that was not afforded to my ancestors. Emancipation day is a day where we can express ourselves through fashion, and not just on that day but at any day we so choose. That is an important factor that I appreciate very much.
For me emancipation signifies a time of reflection, change, acceptance, and strength, it is also a time to appreciate our culture with respect to our dancing, singing and our fashion. Things that we not able to do hundreds of years ago, when we were banned and forbidden to express ourselves now we can do freely.
