Emancipation day to me is a reminder of many thing, it's a reminder of the struggle of my ancestors and the pain that they endured through out. Although I was not born into the slavery because of emancipation day I was born into freedom. Freedom to peruse my dreams and freedom to express myself as a proud black woman. Ii is a bitter sweet memory for some people, but for me it is a moment of triumph and perseverance that through it all we came out strong and we can now celebrate what was kept from us.

Finally Identifying with the culture our dance, music, craft and fashion. Things that were forbidden for us to do or even practice we can now show off to the world, and relate to different people. We show the world we were once bound but we are now free
