1. INTRODUCTION
Figure 11 depicts the site in its wider context, highlighted are areas/
buildings and businesses of interest that possibly link to the finished
design. It becomes clear from the map that Portsmouth in general
is an area particularly accepting of dogs in public spaces, apparent
from the number of dog-friendly pubs. There are also several dog
groomers in the vicinity that could perhaps advertise their businesses
within the centre or work in the centre several days a week. There
is a lot of open spaces surrounding the rowing club that would allow
the perfect spacious environment for yoga, as well as running or dog
walking. Yoga centres and classes are also identified on the map,
the number of such suggesting that this is an area with an initial
interest in well-being, suggesting a further well-being centre would
be accepted.
“Portsmouth is the perfect city for dogs and their owners. With miles
of beautiful seafront and parks, as well as various open spaces dotted
all over the city, you can enjoy everything that Portsmouth offers with
man’s best friend by your side. With over 60 parks and open spaces
within Portsmouth plus miles and miles of beautiful seafront you can
rest assured that you and your dog won’t be able to wait to explore
the great outdoors. “
Above is the description of Portsmouth’ outlook on dog friendly
places in the city from the official visit portsmouth website. (n.d).
