1. INTRODUCTION
The 5 Concepts behind Feeling O’Canine are Well-being, socialisation,
Bonding, Calm and Exercise and each of these concepts applies
to both people and their dogs. The ways in which the Centre will
improve the well-being of people and dogs is as followed:
- Dog Yoga Sessions
- Dog Behavioural Training
- Dog Café
- Organised Dog Walking
- Overnight Dog Stay
- Dog Daycare
- Therapy Dog Sessions
- Meditation
Exercise will be encouraged, both in people and the dogs at the
centre, mostly in the form of Dog Yoga, and dog walking. The dog
yoga and walking are also social opportunities for dogs and people,
as well as a way of allowing owners to bond with their dogs, which
in turn solves behavioural issues and companionship diminishing
isolation, the bond can also be strengthened through the dog training
sessions that will also be conducted in the space.
Fighting separation anxiety, the Centre will act as a ‘day care’ for
dogs, when their owners work long hours to avoid the mental health
issues that arise when dogs are left alone for extended periods. There
is also the opportunity in place for dog walkers to pick up a dog while
their guardian is working to offer it an hour or so of interaction and
exercise in between awaiting their owner to return.
The system in place at the centre will aim to help people, in particular
the elderly, who may find themselves struggling to offer their dogs
what they need as their circumstances change, for example the
centre will provide an emergency hotel for dogs, for when owners
are having to go away for business or stay in hospital etc. There
will also be the opportunity available for the dogs to be walked by
volunteers, should their owners be in a position in which they are
unable to efficiently exercise them.
