3. DESIGN
I know from the previous models that I have made that I wanted
the new elements that interject the space to be clad in an opposing
material in order for the spaces to be differentiated, representing
the juxtaposition between the playful aesthetic and character of the
Feeling O’Canine Centre and the serious concept that it functions
toward. (Being the aid of mental health in people and dogs.)
To explore this, I photographed the model at what would be eyelevel
at scale, and added materials onto the walls, as well as a glass railing
to make the mezzanine first floor clear to understand.
The Material decision was loosely inspired by the Canada Museum
of Nature, shown in Figure 66. The original building was originally
built in 1905 and was then the Victoria Memorial Museum Building,
built in the Scottish Baronial Style. (Fruhauf, E. 2013). However in
2010 its renovation included a large glass space that interjects the
existing, almost as though it is not a part of it but passing through. I
have mirrored the idea through the contrast between the wood and
the white plaster, as it ties in with the colour palette of September
Paris apartments but also appears quire neutral and calming, in a
space that there could be a lot going on and could become quite
chaotic.
