2. CONCEPT
THE PLAY MORE EXHIBITION, LONDON,
DOMINIC WILCOX
In 2017, Dominic Wilcox opened the worlds fist
art exhibition specifically for dogs, The exhibit
was open for two dogs and hosted a variety of
interactive works of art that each appeal to dogs
senses, in order to encourage their engagement.
The south London showcase featured a dog bowl
shaped ballpit, with the balls scented to replicate
dog food, an open car window stimulator, with a
fan blowing the scents of raw meat at them as
well as interactive water features and paintings.
The paintings have been carefully curated using
only blue, yellow and grey tones, as these are the
only colours in a dogs visual spectrum. (Grasyte,
R. 2017).
The installations, artworks and inventions displayed
all portrayed a humorous approach while working
towards a serious issue, the works were often
slightly tongue and cheek and silly, complimenting 19
the whole concept behind the exhibition itself.
An idea that appears slightly comedic but has an
underlying seriousness.
The exhibition was commissioned by More Than
Pet Insurance as part of their #PlayMore Campaign,
which sought to encourage more play both
between owners and pets and between different
dogs as a bid to highlight and reduce the growing
issue of mental illness in dogs, strengthening
the bond between owner and dogs and avoiding
the negative effects that separation anxiety can
have on our pets. (Cowan, K. 2016). Like the Play
More Exhibition, More than Pet insurance will
be contributing to Feeling O’Canine, combining
the project with their #PlayMore Campaign and
working alongside Rover UK aid the growing issues
they together are fighting against.
