An old favorite and tradition at the TRAVELING Stone Pear THE on WORLD Valentine ’ s Day is our Viva Italia Valen-Dine and we ’ re bringing it back ! Residents will enjoy homestyle dining amidst candle-light with a menu reminiscent of Old World Italy , including spaghetti and meatballs , garlic bread , fresh garden salad , and choice of dessert . Promises to be magnifico !

IMPORTANCE OF SOCIALIZATION Seniors are especially vulnerable to feelings of isolation and loneliness . Typically , we see isolated seniors at home alone . Older adults who live in nursing , assisted , or senior living communities are generally more active and more social because of the opportunities they have throughout the day to connect with neighbors and staff members .

Socialization is important for everyone , but especially for older adults . Benefits include :

• Decreased feelings of depression and anxiety

• Decreased health complications from obesity to heart disease

• Decreased cognitive loss

• Increased immune system response ( We can all use this right now !)

• Feeling connected and supported by peers

Social distancing within each senior living community is looking a bit different depending on where you are in the world right now . Fortunately , WVHCA , last month , began permitting socially distanced groups for communal dining , group activities , and group therapy in non-COVID units maintaining required precautions . This has been a welcomed and timely announcement for so many of our residents . We are reintroducing old friends and new faces to one another and are excited to implement a stimulating mix of new activities with old favorites to share in together .
