Rather than“ work – life balance,” Joel talks about“ life balance,” using the flexibility of his role to be present at school concerts, coach youth sports, and still serve clients well.
understand their families, and stay connected as their needs change.
Joel’ s connection to BetterLife grew out of relationships and reputation. The local member group, already known for its strong community service, identified him as someone whose character and involvement aligned with BetterLife’ s approach.
Through conversations with leaders such as Rebecca Lureen, Mike Koehler, Doug Hauk, and Teresa O’ Connell, he quickly saw that BetterLife was about more than policies and premiums. He was especially drawn to the membership benefits that translate into real-life impact: benefits, community meals, silent auctions, and practical support when families hit rough patches.
What excites Joel most is that members’ hard-earned dollars serve a dual purpose. They secure future protection for their families, but they also help fund tangible, local efforts today, whether that is cooking brats at a basketball game or pitching in at a fundraiser. For a community-minded agent, that alignment of product and purpose made BetterLife a natural fit. He also appreciates having direct access to leadership, recalling how meaningful it was to meet BetterLife’ s CEO early on and see our clear, genuine vision for serving small communities.

In a town where everyone wears many hats, people understand their agent is also a parent, volunteer, and neighbor, and that mutual understanding strengthens trust.
Looking ahead, Joel is excited to deepen engagement in the member group by inviting new people into leadership and“ building the bench,” so organizations don’ t rely on just a few volunteers. Professionally, he is focused on getting BetterLife’ s products into more hands in a natural, values-driven way, serving existing clients who may not yet know about BetterLife, and welcoming new members, while fine-tuning his workflow to support those goals. Through it all, he remains grateful to be, as he says, " one small piece of a beautiful puzzle in Philip and beyond."
