How Did You First Get Started In Property Management?
Area Property Manager, Kairoi Residential
SNAPSHOTS
I actually stumbled into it right after college. I was just looking for something stable while I figured out my long term plans, and I ended up taking a leasing position. What surprised me was how quickly I fell in love with the work, especially the people side of it. Helping someone find a home, solving problems, and building relationships all clicked for me in a way I didn’ t expect, and that’ s what pulled me deeper into the industry.
Who Has Been A Mentor Or Major Influence In Your Career?
I had a regional manager early in my career who really believed in me. She taught me how to balance firmness with compassion and that you can enforce rules while still treating people with dignity. She also encouraged me to speak up and trust my instincts.
What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self When You Were First Starting Out?
Don’ t take every problem personally. When I started, I felt like every complaint was a reflection of my performance. I’ d tell myself to stay calm, stay kind, and trust that solutions come easier when you’ re not carrying the stress alone.
How Has This Career Shaped You As A Person— Beyond Just Your Professional Life?
It’ s made me more patient and more empathetic. You see people at all kinds of highs and lows. Moving in, moving out, dealing with life changes, and it teaches you to meet people where they are. I’ ve also become an expert multitasker in my personal life without even trying.
What’ s A Misconception About Our Industry You’ d Like To Clear Up?
That all we do is collect rent! In reality, it’ s a very people-focused job. You’ re juggling maintenance, budgets, compliance, conflict resolution, marketing, customer service, and sometimes you’ re basically an unofficial therapist. There’ s a lot more strategy and heart in this work than people assume.
